Dera Sacha Sauda boss Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh - expected to serve a 20-year
prison term for raping two ladies - has been conceded parole, once more. Singh
has been delivered for 50 days; this is Ram Rahim Singh's seventh parole in the
beyond two years, and ninth over the most recent four years.
Last year
alone Ram Rahim Singh - on paper in a correctional facility in Sunaria Prison
in Haryana's Rohtak region - was given parole on three events, amounting to 91
days. He was delivered for 21 days in November, 30 days in July, and 40 days in
January - to go to previous Dera boss Shah Satnam's birth anniversary
Singh was
pictured on that event "celebrating" by cutting a birthday cake with
a sword. In a video that was broadly shared online Rahim Singh was seen cutting
the cake and proclaiming, "Got an opportunity following five years to
celebrate this way... so I ought to cut no less than five cakes. This is the
1st cake!"
The public
presentation of weapons (cutting a cake with a sword falls in that class) is
denied under the Arms Act.
Slam Rahim's
January 2023 release set off contention, especially after Haryana CM Manohar
Lal Khattar demanded getting parole, gave all methods are followed, was his
"right".
"I
didn't know that Ram Rahim has got parole. Yet, in the event that he has, it
should be in the wake of following every one of the methodology and that is his
right. I won't meddle in that," Mr Khattar had said.
In 2022 as
well, the BJP that is in power in Haryana had given Ram Rahim Singh parole
multiple times.
In October
he was released for 40 days, in June he was released for a month, and, in
February, he was released for 21 days. He was likewise given parole once each
in 2021 and 2020 - to visit his mom.
The October
parole came in front of panchayat polls in Haryana and a few BJP pioneers were
found in participation at a 'virtual satsang' held by Ram Rahim, welcoming
assaults from the opposition.
Ram Rahim Singh was convicted by a
special CBI court in Haryana's Panchkula in August 2017 for raping two women.
