In the Delhi liquor policy case, the court directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to Arvind Kejriwal's latest petition and scheduled the matter for April 22.
In New Delhi today, the Delhi High Court rejected Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal's plea for protection from arrest in the liquor policy case. However,
the court directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to respond to Mr. Kejriwal's
new petition and set the next hearing for April 22.
The respondent is free to file a response," stated a Bench
comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain.
Mr. Kejriwal's plea for safeguarding against arrest is part of his
larger petition contesting the ED's summons related to alleged money laundering
during the formulation of the now-nullified Delhi liquor policy.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader lodged the petition against the ED's
ninth summons. His legal counsel urged the high court to postpone the summons
issued today.
"The deadline has passed. He has not complied," remarked
Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED.
Mr. Kejriwal has consistently declined to appear before the ED, labeling
the agency's summons as unlawful.
AAP members Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are currently in judicial
custody in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case.
Mr. Kejriwal's name has surfaced numerous times in ED chargesheets, with
the agency asserting that the co-accused worked in tandem with him to formulate
the excise policy. This policy allegedly favored them unfairly, and in return,
they purportedly offered kickbacks to the AAP.
