Nicholas Bogel-Burroughs, a New York Times journalist, shared footage of the
protests on social media platform X, capturing arrested protesters chanting
"we keep us safe!" from within a police vehicle, while bystanders
echoed the chant.
Emerson Students for Justice in Palestine corroborated reports of over a
hundred individuals being detained through their social media posts. Video
footage from CNN affiliate WHDH depicted law enforcement officers in riot gear
advancing towards protesters overnight, although the situation had calmed by
the time of the affiliate's video.
In response to the encampment set up by protesters, Emerson College
President Jay Bernhardt and other school officials issued a letter to students,
emphasizing that the encampment violated city ordinances. The letter reiterated
the college's support for the community's right to protest while emphasizing
the importance of adhering to Boston and Massachusetts laws. The university
expressed deep concern over the potential legal ramifications for protesters
not complying with these laws, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the
