Two paramilitary soldiers lose their lives in an insurgent assault in Manipur

Reportedly, individuals believed to be Kuki insurgents fired shots from a hillside in Naranseina village towards a security post in the valley area.

Tragedy struck as two CRPF personnel lost their lives, with two others sustaining injuries in what is believed to be an insurgent attack early this morning in Manipur's Bishnupur district. Sources report that suspected Kuki insurgents unleashed gunfire from a hillside in Naranseina village towards a central security force post in the valley area, escalating the conflict when a bomb detonated within the outpost, critically injuring four personnel. Despite immediate medical attention, two of the security personnel succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining two are currently receiving treatment.

According to reliable police sources, this attack occurs just six days prior to the first anniversary of the initiation of the Manipur crisis, suggesting a potential escalation in militant activities in the region. The deceased, identified as CRPF sub-inspector N Sarkar and head constable Arup Saini, were members of the CRPF's 128 Battalion stationed at Naranseina. Included in the wounded are inspector Jadav Das and constable Aftab Das. The attack began around midnight and continued until roughly 2:15 am.

The attack transpired at an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) camp where CRPF personnel were stationed subsequent to their election duty in the state. This camp, located 2 kilometers away from the hills, is situated near Upper Canal, an area previously monitored by central security forces due to its sensitivity following the outbreak of violence in Manipur last May.
