PM Modi's Oath Ceremony on Sunday

Narendra Modi will be inaugurated for an unprecedented third term as Prime Minister after the BJP-led NDA coalition triumphed in the Lok Sabha election on Tuesday. The BJP and its allies officially selected the 73-year-old Modi as their leader during a key meeting in Delhi following the election results. Various South Asian leaders, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, have confirmed their attendance. Invitations have also been extended to Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Mauritius's Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

In 2014, leaders of the SAARC countries attended PM Modi's first swearing-in ceremony, and in 2019, leaders of the BIMSTEC countries were present.

PM Modi is the second Indian leader to secure a third consecutive term, following the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP's seats decreased from 303 in 2019 to 240. The BJP-led NDA, which had won 352 seats in 2019, now holds 293, still above the majority mark of 272.

PM Modi and the BJP are counting on their allies to form the government, with the Telugu Desam Party led by Chandrababu Naidu securing 16 seats, and Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal United winning 12 seats.
