Police Report: Two Cattle Transporters Found Dead Following Mob Chase in Chhattisgarh

A senior official stated that there was no evidence yet to indicate it was a case of mob lynching, and the autopsy reports were still pending.

Raipur: Two cattle transporters died and another was seriously injured under mysterious circumstances after reportedly being pursued by a mob in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district on Friday, according to police.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that this incident was a case of mob lynching, and the autopsy results are still pending, stated a senior official.

The event occurred early in the morning in the Arang police station area along the Raipur-Mahasamund interdistrict border, reported Additional Superintendent of Police (Raipur rural) Kirtan Rathore to PTI.

Upon receiving an alert that three individuals were lying injured beneath a 30-foot high bridge over the Mahanadi river, a police team was dispatched to the location, Rathore said.

The truck used for transporting the cattle was discovered on the bridge.

Among the three men, one was found dead at the scene while the other two were critically injured. They were taken to a hospital in Mahasamund, where one later died from his injuries, the official reported.

The deceased were identified as Guddu Khan, also known as Mohamed Tehsin (35), and Chand Miya (33). The injured man, Saddam Kureshi, was later moved to a hospital in Raipur.

All three men were from Uttar Pradesh, with Khan hailing from Saharanpur and Chand Miya from the Shamli district, the ASP mentioned.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the three were traveling from Mahasamund to Raipur with cattle when their vehicle was pursued by some individuals.

The truck, later found stationary on the bridge, has been impounded, and the animals have been relocated to a cow shelter, the police official added.

Autopsy reports for the deceased are still awaited, ASP Rathore stated. "We have requested doctors to provide a preliminary report as soon as possible. We are also reviewing CCTV footage along the route. Currently, we have no evidence to confirm it was a mob lynching. Efforts are underway to identify those who chased them," he added.

The injured man is currently unable to give a statement to the police, the official said. When asked if the victims had external injuries indicative of an assault, he responded, "Injuries could result from a fall from a 30-foot high bridge onto stones. Only a post-mortem report can confirm the cause of the injuries."
