Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi liquor excise policy scam. The court's conditions for bail include not obstructing the investigation or influencing witnesses. Despite this, the Enforcement Directorate is expected to appeal the decision in the Delhi High Court to strengthen its case.
Delhi Chief
Minister and Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal is set to be released from
jail today, June 21, after being granted bail on a ₹1 lakh bond by the Rouse
Avenue Court yesterday. Special Judge Niyay Bindu granted the bail in
connection with a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped excise
policy, also known as the Delhi liquor excise policy scam.
The court
imposed specific conditions for Kejriwal's bail, including not interfering with
the investigation or influencing witnesses. The judge also instructed Kejriwal
to appear in court when required and to cooperate fully with the investigation.
The Enforcement
Directorate (ED) plans to appeal the trial court's decision in the Delhi High
Court today, according to ANI sources.
The Aam
Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed the court's decision, stating, "Truth can be
troubled, but not defeated." Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi
expressed her support by posting "Satyamev Jayate" on X (formerly
Twitter), while senior AAP leader Raghav Chadha celebrated the "victory of
justice" and thanked the court for granting bail.
AAP
supporters celebrated outside Kejriwal's residence in Delhi by bursting
firecrackers.
Opposition
leaders also reacted to the news, with some calling the court's decision
"long overdue." Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal commented on X, suggesting
that Kejriwal's bail was overdue now that the elections are over. Samajwadi
Party chief Akhilesh Yadav praised the bail as a victory of truth and
democracy, alleging that the ED's statements were baseless and politically
motivated.
