Delhi Weather Updates

According to the IMD, rainfall is anticipated in North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, and Central Delhi within the next two hours.

In a welcome break from the intense heatwave, parts of Delhi and Noida experienced light rainfall on Thursday morning, June 20. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rain and winds for various regions within Delhi-NCR and its surrounding areas on Thursday.

According to the latest IMD update, rainfall is expected within the next two hours in North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, and Central Delhi.

"Light to moderate intensity rain and winds with speeds of 20-30 km/h are predicted for several areas including North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, Central Delhi, and NCR regions such as Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, and Bahadurgarh," the IMD announced on X (formerly Twitter).

The IMD also predicted rainfall in various parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the next two hours. This includes areas like Manesar, Ballabhgarh, Sonipat, Kharkhoda, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar, Sohana, and Palwal in Haryana, and Baraut, Bagpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, Kithor, Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Sikandrabad, and Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, northern and eastern India have been enduring a prolonged heatwave, which led to increased heat stroke cases and prompted the central government to advise hospitals to establish special units for affected patients.

A western disturbance is expected to bring slight relief over the next few days, the IMD noted. Additionally, conditions are now favorable for the further progression of the Monsoon, which had stalled between June 12 and 18, delaying the much-needed rains in north India suffering from the extreme heat.

According to the IMD, maximum temperatures reached between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius across numerous areas including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and northern Rajasthan. In Delhi specifically, hospitals have noted an increase in cases of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, resulting in several fatalities over the past two days.
