On Thursday night, the accused and the victim drank alcohol together and got into an argument over a personal issue. In the heat of the moment, Deep struck Satpathy on the head with an iron rod and then fled the scene.

A man allegedly killed his friend following a drunken altercation in Mahura
within the Tamando police jurisdiction on Thursday night.
The deceased
has been identified by the police as Sushant Satpathy (40) from Khurda
district. The accused, Ranjan Deep (27) from Boudh, has been apprehended.
According to
police sources, Satpathy and Deep were employed by a contractor and residing in
his building in the Mahura area, located on the outskirts of the city. Satpathy
worked as a cook, while Deep was a mason.
The two men
consumed alcohol together on Thursday night and began arguing over a personal
matter. During the heated dispute, Deep struck Satpathy on the head with an iron
rod and then fled the scene.
A laborer
residing in the contractor’s house discovered Satpathy lying in a pool of blood
and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An officer
from Tamando police station stated that the initial investigation revealed past
quarrels between Satpathy and Deep over minor issues. The accused has been
arrested and is currently being questioned to determine the precise motive
behind the crime.
