Delhi Rain: Orange Alert Issued for Delhi, Surrounding Areas, Punjab, and Haryana with Heavy Rainfall Predicted for 24 Hours
Delhi
experienced a refreshing change in weather as morning rains brought relief from
the oppressive heat and humidity. The national capital and its neighboring
regions received a significant downpour, leading to a much-needed respite. In
light of this, an orange alert has been issued for Delhi, nearby areas, Punjab,
and Haryana, with predictions of heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
The India
Meteorological Department (IMD) classifies very heavy rainfall as precipitation
ranging between 124.5 mm and 244.4 mm in a single day.
On Monday,
Delhi's weather took a dramatic turn as heavy rains swept through parts of the
city.
June
witnessed record-breaking rainfall for Delhi, with the highest levels observed
in 88 years. The IMD reported that from 8:30 a.m. on June 27 to 8:30 a.m. on
June 28, Delhi received 228 mm of rainfall.
In total,
235.5 mm of rain was recorded, marking the highest 24-hour rainfall in June
since 1936.
However, the
heavy rains have led to rising water levels in the Yamuna River. This has
prompted authorities to issue an alert to residents of Noida villages located
along the riverbanks. These areas suffered severe flooding last year during the
monsoon season, causing considerable disruption to the lives of residents in
both Delhi and Noida.
