The entrepreneur announced his intention to make his DNA publicly accessible, enabling his biological children to connect with one another.
Pavel Durov,
the Founder and CEO of Telegram, recently disclosed an astonishing detail to
his 5.7 million Telegram followers: he has over "100 biological
children." In a recent post, Durov expressed his surprise at this
revelation, questioning how it could be true given his personal choice to remain
unmarried and live alone.
Durov
recounted an unusual request made by a friend around 15 years ago. The friend,
unable to conceive due to fertility issues, asked Durov to donate sperm to a
clinic. Initially amused, Durov soon realized his friend was serious and agreed
to assist. He noted that the clinic's director informed him of a significant
shortage of "high-quality donor material" and suggested that it was
his "civic duty" to contribute more.
Durov,
intrigued by the idea, decided to proceed with the donation process. He now
reveals that his contributions have aided over a hundred couples across 12
countries in having children. Additionally, some of his sperm is still stored
in IVF clinics, available for use by families seeking to conceive.
Durov has
announced plans to make his DNA open-source, allowing his biological children
to connect with one another. He expressed pride in his role in addressing the
global shortage of healthy sperm and aims to challenge the stigma surrounding
sperm donation. By sharing his story, Durov hopes to encourage more men to
donate and provide additional options for families struggling with infertility.
His post has
garnered significant attention, with over 1.8 million views. Reactions on X
(formerly Twitter) have been varied, with some users critiquing the notion of
tech CEOs boasting about their offspring and others highlighting the ongoing
presence of his donated sperm in clinics.
