The Minister also reported that 1,444 cases have been filed concerning illegal constructions and apartments within the jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
In a recent
session of the Odisha Assembly, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna
Mohapatra provided an update on the ongoing efforts to address illegal
constructions in the state, particularly in the Bhubaneswar area. He revealed
that a total of 491 cases have been filed concerning unauthorized apartments
and other structures under the jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar Development
Authority (BDA).
Among these
cases, the government has issued demolition orders for 191 illegal
constructions. Meanwhile, 63 cases have been dismissed, and 237 remain active
and are currently undergoing trial. This proactive approach highlights the
government's commitment to regulating urban development and ensuring compliance
with established building codes.
In addition
to the BDA cases, Minister Mohapatra reported that the Bhubaneswar Municipal
Corporation (BMC) has registered a staggering 1,444 cases related to illegal constructions
and apartments within its limits. Out of these, 451 cases have been resolved,
while 993 cases are still pending in the judicial system. This significant
number underscores the challenges faced by local authorities in managing urban
growth and maintaining the integrity of city planning.
The minister
emphasized that the actions being taken against these violations are in
accordance with the Odisha Urban Development Authorities Act of 1982. This
legislation provides the framework for regulating urban development and
ensuring that all constructions adhere to the legal standards set forth by the
state. The government's efforts reflect a broader commitment to sustainable
urban development and the protection of citizens' rights.
Minister
Mohapatra's statements indicate a robust approach to tackling illegal
constructions, which can pose risks to public safety and urban planning. By
actively pursuing legal action against violators, the government aims to deter
future infractions and promote responsible development practices. The ongoing
trials and resolutions of these cases will play a crucial role in shaping the
future of urban development in Bhubaneswar and beyond.
In
conclusion, the government's efforts to combat illegal constructions are a
vital aspect of maintaining orderly urban growth in Odisha. With a significant
number of cases under review and ongoing enforcement actions, the Housing and
Urban Development Department is taking a firm stand against violations,
ensuring that the principles of urban planning and safety are upheld. As these
cases progress through the legal system, they will serve as important
precedents for future urban development initiatives in the region.
