Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha, Pravati Parida, announced on
Saturday that funds under the Subhadra scheme will be transferred to
beneficiaries' accounts by November 24. The third installment of the first
phase is set to be distributed at an event in Sundargarh, ensuring that the
remaining eligible beneficiaries receive their entitlements. Parida shared that
over 1.5 crore women have registered for the scheme, with approximately 60 lakh
women already receiving financial assistance in the second phase.
Parida assured that the rest of the beneficiaries would
receive payments in the third phase, noting that funds would be distributed
following NPCI clearance to avoid excluding any eligible recipients. Recent
reports indicate that on August 22, 2024, the Odisha Cabinet approved Subhadra,
a scheme aimed at empowering women financially and providing family support,
with a dedicated budget of ₹55,825 crore over five years.
Since the scheme's launch, over 1 crore registrations have been logged on the official portal, and more than 60 lakh beneficiaries were approved across two phases. Additionally, during a Cabinet meeting on October 23, 2024, several amendments were made to enhance the scheme’s reach and implementation. These include updating the exclusion criteria, adding CBDC as a payment option, and restricting the issuance of ATM-cum-debit cards under Subhadra. Temporary delinking from the Aadhaar e-KYC module also allowed alternative verification through NFSA and PM KISAN databases between September 8 and 13. Furthermore, the Cabinet approved including two representatives from civil society in the Block and Urban Local Level Scrutiny Committees, nominated by their respective chairpersons, to strengthen oversight in beneficiary selection.
