"Unexpected rainfall provides a welcome respite from the sweltering Delhi heat"

"Numerous areas across Delhi experienced rain on Tuesday following the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast of heavy rainfall in the national capital and surrounding regions on April 23."

In an abrupt shift in weather patterns, numerous regions of Delhi experienced light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday. As per the latest forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi-NCR (including Dadri and Greater Noida) along with neighboring areas such as Safidon, Barwala, Jind, Hissar, Hansi, Meham, Tosham, Bhiwani, Loharu, Kosali, and Mahendargarh, are expected to witness moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds during the evening hours today.

This sudden atmospheric transformation can be attributed to the development of storms over southwestern Haryana and Rajasthan. There is a likelihood of heavy rainfall in Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, among others.

IMD's official statement on X indicates, "Dust storms, thunderstorms with rain (followed by rain), and strong gusts with speeds ranging from 40 to 70 kilometers per hour are anticipated over Delhi and its adjacent areas including Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda (Haryana), Bagpat, Meerut, Khekra, Modinagar, and Garhmukteshwar."

The weather outlook for Delhi

In contrast to the sudden rise in temperatures witnessed in Eastern India, Delhi is expected to maintain a stable weather pattern over the next couple of days, with occasional bouts of moderate rainfall. The temperature in the national capital is projected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius for the next 2-3 days. Dr. Naresh Kumar, a Senior Scientist at IMD, informed ANI on Monday that temperatures in Delhi may gradually rise by 1-2 degrees during the latter part of the week.

The rainfall in Delhi stems from a cyclonic disturbance, expected to bring scattered light to moderate showers. IMD predicts chances of snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on April 22nd and 23rd, 2024. However, relief from the intense heat will be short-lived as Delhi's weather in the next two to three days will mainly feature clear skies and high temperatures. According to the latest forecast by IMD for Delhi, Wednesday and Thursday will see mainly clear skies with strong surface winds. Some areas may experience cloudy weather, with temperatures ranging between 23 and 40 degrees Celsius until April 29th.
