Summer Vacation in Odisha: All schools, including government, government-aided, and private institutions, to shut down starting April 25th.
Odisha continues to grapple with scorching heatwave conditions, with
Baripada town in Mayurbhanj district recording a sweltering maximum temperature
of 44.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, as reported by the bulletin from IMD's
Bhubaneswar center. Nine locations across the state witnessed temperatures
soaring to 43 degrees Celsius or higher during the day.
Nuapada town in western Odisha ranked as the second hottest spot,
reaching 44 degrees Celsius. Following closely, temperatures stood at 43.8
degrees Celsius in Talcher, trailed by Jharsuguda (43.6), Keonjhar (43.6),
Angul (43.3), Bolangir (43.2), Sundergarh (43), and Boudh (43). Additionally,
21 other areas experienced daytime temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above.
Both Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities recorded a temperature of 41.6
degrees Celsius. The IMD center issued an Orange Warning for heatwave conditions
for several districts on April 22, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh,
Nuapada, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Bolangir,
Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul, Khurda, and Cuttack.
The forecast predicts hot and humid weather in select areas of Balasore,
Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh,
Ganjam, and Gajapati during the day. Furthermore, thunderstorms and rainfall
are expected in several districts including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam,
Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur,
Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul,
Sambalpur, Bargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
In response to the prevailing intense heatwave, the Odisha government
has declared summer vacation for school students starting April 25. All
schools, including government, government-aided, and private institutions, will
remain closed from that date. Additionally, morning classes from 6:30 am to
10:30 am have been scheduled in schools for three days from April 22 to April
24. This decision follows a previous directive to close all schools in the
state for three days from April 18 to 20 due to temperatures exceeding 45
degrees Celsius.
