A potentially catastrophic accident was narrowly averted for the Visakhapatnam-Durg Vande Bharat Express near Nuapada Road railway station in Odisha late last night. The train, which was bound for Durg from Visakhapatnam, was passing through the area at approximately 10 PM when the loco pilot noticed a large obstruction on the tracks—specifically, a sizable rock positioned on the left rail.

Demonstrating quick reflexes and keen observation, the loco pilot halted the train about 100 meters before it reached a railway level crossing gate. After bringing the train to a safe stop, the loco pilot promptly reported the issue to the station master, alerting railway authorities about the potential hazard.

In response, railway personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The team worked efficiently to clear the obstruction, ensuring the tracks were safe for the train to proceed. Approximately an hour later, after the rock was removed, the train resumed its journey with no reported damage or injuries to passengers.

Law enforcement officers from the Nuapada police station also reached the location to investigate the incident. Authorities began an inquiry to determine the origin of the obstruction, looking into whether the rock’s placement on the track was accidental or deliberate. Efforts are underway to establish who might be responsible and whether there was any intent to sabotage the train’s passage.

Local residents and railway passengers expressed immense gratitude for the loco pilot’s attentiveness, which likely prevented a serious accident. Many praised his alertness and presence of mind, noting that his swift actions safeguarded the passengers and train crew from potential harm.
