Vistara’s final flight from Odisha took off for Delhi on
Monday night, marking the conclusion of the airline’s services in the state as
it prepares to merge with Air India. Flight UK 782 departed from Biju Patnaik
International Airport at 8:30 p.m. and arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi
International Airport at 10:55 p.m., symbolizing the airline’s last operation from
Odisha prior to the merger.
In a heartfelt farewell to its passengers, Vistara conveyed
its appreciation for their continued support, saying, "Thank you for being
part of this unforgettable journey and for sharing your #VistaraLove. We will
always treasure these memories." The airline also encouraged its customers
to follow Air India on the social media platform X for upcoming updates.
Vistara, a collaboration between Tata Group and Singapore
Airlines, is set to fully integrate with Air India, which is also under Tata
Group ownership. This transition has been meticulously planned to ensure a
smooth handover for passengers. After the merger, all former Vistara flights
will be operated by Air India and will have a unique four-digit Air India code
starting with “2,” such as UK 955 becoming AI 2955. This system, effective November
12, aims to streamline customer experience on the Air India website.
Despite the merger, Vistara’s flight schedules, routes, and
onboard services will stay consistent, managed by the same cabin crew. To
further ease the transition, Air India is boosting support staff across major
airports in India, with visible help desks at key locations and customer
service agents in co-branded “How may I assist you?” T-shirts.
For international travelers, support staff in branded
uniforms and guiding signs will be strategically placed at check-in counters.
Vistara’s airport ticket offices and check-in counters are gradually being
converted to Air India’s, and automated kiosks are providing updated check-in
guidance under the new AI2 flight code.
Additionally, calls to the Vistara support center will now be
redirected to Air India’s customer service team, ensuring uninterrupted
assistance. Vistara’s frequent fliers—over 4.5 million members—are being merged
into Air India’s loyalty program. Meanwhile, nearly 270,000 customers with
pre-existing bookings have been seamlessly shifted to Air India.
Post-merger, Air India will offer expanded connectivity, with
over 90 destinations in its network and access to 800 more via codeshare
partners. Enhancements are also underway for Air India’s narrow-body fleet,
including new aircraft acquisitions, cabin upgrades, and an expansion of
Vistara’s catering service to Air India flights.
