Punjab Man Fatally Shot in Canada, Police Suspect Targeted Attack

Yuvraj was known to have a clean criminal record, and the Royal Canadian Police stated that the motive for his murder is still under investigation.

An Indian-origin man from Ludhiana, Punjab, was fatally shot in Surrey, Canada, on Friday. The victim, Yuvraj Goyal, 28, arrived in Canada on a student visa in 2019 and had recently obtained his Permanent Resident (PR) status.

Yuvraj was employed as a sales executive. His father, Rajesh Goyal, operates a firewood business, and his mother, Shakun Goyal, is a homemaker. The Royal Canadian Police confirmed that Yuvraj had no criminal record, and the reason behind his murder is still being investigated.

The incident occurred on June 7 at 8:46 am when Surrey Police received a call about a shooting in the 900-block of 164 Street in Surrey, British Columbia. Upon arrival, officers discovered Yuvraj deceased. Four suspects have been arrested: Manvir Basram (23), Sahib Basra (20), and Harkirat Jhutty (23) from Surrey, and Keilon Francois (20) from Ontario. They have been charged with first-degree murder.

Sergeant Timothy Pierotti stated, "We appreciate the hard work of the Surrey RCMP, Air 1, and the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT), but there is still more work to be done. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) remains committed to uncovering why Mr. Goyal was targeted."

Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was targeted, though the reasons behind Yuvraj's killing are still being examined.
