Following Harbhajan Singh's strong response to Kamran Akmal's comments regarding the Sikh community, the former Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman promptly apologized for his remarks.
Former
Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has expressed remorse to Harbhajan
Singh and the Sikh community for his offensive remarks directed towards
Arshdeep Singh. Akmal conveyed his sincere apologies on a Pakistani news
channel, acknowledging his regret for the disrespectful comments that had upset
the former Indian cricketer.
During a
panel discussion on ARY News amidst the India vs Pakistan clash at the T20
World Cup in New York, Akmal made derogatory remarks about the Indian bowler's
religious background, stating, "Anything is possible... Let's see, the
last over will be bowled by Arshdeep Singh; he hasn’t found his rhythm. It's
already 12."
These
remarks by Akmal triggered a significant backlash on social media, drawing a
vehement response from Harbhajan Singh.
"Lakh
di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal... You should understand the Sikh history before
uttering such filth. We Sikhs protected your mothers and sisters when they were
abducted by invaders, often at the stroke of midnight. Shame on you... Show
some gratitude," the Indian spin maestro expressed on X platform.
Following
Harbhajan's condemnation, Akmal promptly issued an apology for his comments,
acknowledging their inappropriateness and lack of respect.
"I
deeply regret my recent comments and offer a sincere apology to
@harbhajan_singh and the Sikh community. My words were out of line and
disrespectful. I hold immense regard for Sikhs worldwide and never intended to
cause harm. I genuinely apologize. #Respect #Apology," Kamran Akmal
conveyed on X platform.
In the
match, Rohit Sharma & Co secured victory over Pakistan by 6 runs in a
closely contested encounter. Despite being dismissed for a mere 119 runs in 19
overs, India mounted a strong comeback with disciplined bowling, restricting
their arch-rivals to 113/7.
