WHO
IS MOHAN CHARAN MAJHI?
Union
Minister Rajnath Singh, one of the BJP observers for selecting the new CM,
praised Majhi as a “young and dynamic party karyakarta” poised to lead Odisha
towards progress and prosperity as the new Chief Minister.
Mohan Majhi,
aged 53, hails from the tribal community. He was first elected to the Odisha
assembly from the Keonjhar constituency in 2000 and has continued to represent
it.
A four-time
MLA, Majhi is recognized for his public service and organizational
capabilities. The BJP chose him as Odisha's first-ever chief minister, opting
for a relatively new face after central ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual
Oram were sworn in.
Mr. Majhi
will have two deputies, KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida. At 52, he was the
youngest contender for the post and won the Keonjhar seat this year with a
margin of 11,577 votes.
