Although the precise cause of the incident remains uncertain, it is suspected that the accident occurred due to the driver of the Mo Bus losing control of the steering wheel.
Around 20 passengers sustained injuries when a Mo Bus traveling from
Bhubaneswar to Khordha veered off the road and fell into a nearby nullah near
Pitapali chhak on Saturday.
While the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, it is suspected
that the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
A significant number of commuters gathered at the accident site,
providing assistance to the injured passengers.
All injured passengers have been admitted to Khordha hospital, with
reports indicating around 25 to 30 passengers were onboard during the incident.
Ten passengers are reportedly in critical condition, while two are in very
critical condition. Some passengers will be transferred to Bhubaneswar for
further treatment.
Despite some passengers contacting the police control room for help, no
official allegedly arrived at the scene. Eventually, passersby rescued
passengers by breaking the bus's window glasses.
A passenger who was injured voiced their frustration, saying, "The
cause of the accident is unclear to us. The PCR didn't arrive at the scene, and
initially, some individuals didn't offer assistance. Eventually, some
bystanders rescued us by breaking the windows."
Another injured passenger described the incident, mentioning, "It
seems the bus hit something and later skidded off the road. Both my legs have
been fractured. I had gone to purchase medicines. I have also lost my bag
containing cash."
Several injured passengers have been transferred to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The medical team at Khordha hospital is providing primary treatment to the injured passengers.
The bus driver is reportedly missing following the incident. Senior
police officials have arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation to
determine the exact cause of the mishap.
